Memories of a departed friend

Some reflexions by Will Alkass

The funeral service for Rodney Wilson that was held at Holy Trinity Church on Monday 17th June 2024 was such a fitting tribute to a kind and fine gentleman and it was so moving to see many people attending the service to pay their last respect to him, including family members and friends, remembering him as a husband, a father, a grandfather and dear friend and a long-standing church-goer.

I have known Rodney, or Rod, for many years as a gentle and kind man who used to always  please with his mild and pleasant manners, but our friendship had a stronger element added to it when we, with few other like-minded people, briefly established a “Photography Club”. This was the year 2019 when, in spite of limited resources, we managed to satisfy our hobby of photography, where we would agree on a theme for the month, and then go out singly or in a group to take photos. Then at the end of the month we would get together, view all the photos, select and judge one or two of them as “winners of the month”. Unfortunately with the start of Covid and the lockdown our activities had to stop, never to start again. However, I am glad to share with you some photos that were taken by Rodney so as to reveal one aspect of the man which may not be known to others.
